Balela Salad is a Middle Eastern salad that stars chickpeas as the main ingredient. It’s quick, filling, and definitely healthy!
Recently, wifey has had consistent cravings for salad so I have been whipping up different kinds for her to enjoy! Some of the recipes I’ve made include Cowboy Caviar and Green Goddess Salad!
This recipe was actually inspired by the famous Trader Joe’s Balela Salad. The original recipe includes black beans, but I decided to make this without it, kakaka~
Nevertheless, I still loved how it turned out because it had colorful peppers, cucumber, tomatoes, scallions, fresh herbs (mint & Italian parsley), and chickpeas to make it more filling! The homemade vinaigrette made it come together beautifully!
The OG Recipe & Serving
I’ve looked up and seen that the authentic recipes used sumac, but I didn’t have any. They still turned out great though! Wifey loved it!
When we had this, we actually had it as it is. If you want, you can serve it as a side dish to your choice of protein or wrapped in pita bread. It makes a great filling for a burrito! What amazed me the most was how it tasted even better when made fresh. The flavors came together and actually complemented each other!
If you’ll be having this, you can make a big batch and it should be okay in the fridge for about 4-5 days. Easy Balela Salad recipe that’s good for filling, dip, or meal!
