Chicken Parmesan are crispy chicken fillets covered in marinara sauce, topped with bubbly and melty cheese, perfect for a cozy family dinner.
As a Korean chef, I almost always only cook Korean food, but lately, my kids have been loving pasta dishes, so I made this Chicken Parmesan for them. My version is not authentic in any way, but the ingredients I used and the procedure I did worked easily for me.
This dish requires several steps, but I did my best to make it easier for everyone to prepare at home. This is perfect for date nights, special occasions, or a simple and pleasant family dinner. Bonus, it’s kid-friendly!
What You’ll Need
- Chicken Breast – Boneless chicken breast is perfect for this dish! One large breast can be divided into two so it can create more servings depending on how many will eat.
- Breading – We’ll coat the chicken cutlets with flour, egg, and breadcrumbs seasoned with parmesan cheese to make them crispy on the outside yet moist on the inside.
- Olive Oil – For frying, we use olive oil so it’s healthier.
- Marinara Sauce – While you can make marinara sauce from scratch, you can use your favorite jar sauce to make it easier.
- Aromatics, Herbs, and Seasonings – If you find your marinara sauce is tasty enough, you can skip these ingredients. However, I opted to saute my sauce in garlic and onion, and seasoned it with salt, pepper, and basil leaves to make it tastier for when I add the pasta in it.
- Variety of Cheese – I used fresh mozzarella and parmesan cheese to top the dish.
- Angel Hair Pasta – You can use any pasta you like, but I prefer to use angel hair so it’s easier for the kids to eat.
How to Make Easy Chicken Parmesan?
Fry the Chicken Cutlet
- Slice one chicken breast into two and pound it until 1/2-inch thick. Do this until all your chicken breasts are thinned, then season each with salt and pepper.
- Prepare the flour, eggs, and season the breadcrumbs with parmesan cheese. Place these into three separate plates.
- Lightly coat the chicken in flour, then egg, then into the breadcrumbs. Pack the breadcrumbs well.
- In a pan, add oil until 1/2 inch deep, then heat it up til 350F.
- Shallow fry the chicken breasts for 3-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Do this until all the chicken is cooked.
Prepare the Sauce and Pasta
- Chop garlic and onion.
- In a pan with a bit of olive oil, saute the garlic and onion.
- Once the aromatics are fragrant, add the marinara sauce, season it with salt and pepper, and add the basil leaves.
- Let it boil, then taste and adjust with salt and pepper.
- Cook the noodles per package instructions, then drain.
As mentioned, if you find that your preferred sauce is tasty enough, you can skip this step. I only did this to add seasonings for when I add the pasta later on.
Assemble the Chicken Parmesan
- In a baking pan, add a layer of the sauce, then place the chicken on top. Add another layer of sauce to the chicken, then top with another layer of sauce, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, and basil.
- Broil this for 5 minutes or until the sauce is bubbly and the cheese is melty.
- Meanwhile, combine the remaining sauce and cooked pasta, and mix it well.
- On a plate, place a serving of pasta in the middle, then top with the chicken parmesan.
- Garnish with more cheese, serve hot, and enjoy!
