Aromatics
As much as I’m sad we didn’t have green onions and garlic, we did have leftover white onion. That should be enough to work with and make our whole RV smell so good!
Vegetables
Since this is a Korean food blog, you already know we’re going to have kimchi during vacation. But in a barbecue, you’d for sure have many other vegetables from the grill, so feel free to use them up for your fried rice. If you have no leftover veggies, you can use frozen vegetables for a healthy kick!! For this recipe, I added kimchi, leftover grilled onions, and corn all chopped into small bite-size pieces.
Protein
What I used for this easy fried rice recipe are burgers, hotdogs, spam, and eggs! Feel free to use grilled chicken, pork chops, steak, shrimp, or whatever you have. These are all perfect protein options that will make the dish taste better. They are already seasoned and already have that smoky taste from the grill, nah mean??
Rice
Coming from an Asian household, rice is definitely a staple. For this recipe, it was perfect that we had so much leftover white rice from lunch that we could turn to fried rice for dinner! It had turned cold and dried out by the time I was making this! Fluff the rice to make sure you’ll be able to mix them thoroughly, and the toppings will be distributed evenly.
If you do not have leftover rice, you can easily use freshly cooked rice. A trick you can do to dry them out is to lay them on a baking sheet and place them in the fridge for about 30 minutes to an hour. That should mimic the texture of day-old rice.
Seasoning
Honestly, season with your heart. Normally, I would add gochujang, oyster sauce, and nori for more flavor. However, salt, pepper, and sesame oil should be enough too. Apart from making do with what we have, the proteins and vegetables should be tasty enough to give the fried rice flavor~
The Secret Ingredient
Of course, in any of my fried rice, the secret is always butter. A little bit will bring that velvety, buttery finish that will bring the whole thing together! Bonus tip, let the fried rice sit a little longer in the pan or wok to create that crispy crust at the bottom. You’re welcome!
